About Us

The Institute’s origins lie in the informal gatherings of pioneering state school business leaders more than 40 years ago, individuals who recognised early the vital role of effective operational leadership in education.

As the education system has grown in complexity, so too has the role of the wider workforce. Increased school autonomy, coupled with heightened accountability, has made the contribution of highly skilled and professionally qualified school business professionals (SBPs) not just valuable but essential across all settings.

Building on the National College’s work during the mid 2000s, we continue the important mission of professionalising the SBP workforce.

Welcome to ISBL from the Deputy CEO (ED Designate)

Having served the organisation for 15 years, I am proud to be stepping into the role of ED Designate and lead ISBL into the next phase of its evolution, alongside the three complementary CEOE hubs.

Our relentless commitment to individual practitioners will not waver. Strengthened by deeper evidence and insights from across the CEOE network, we will continue to enhance our offer in all its forms—professional development, events, and resources.

We will also continue to act as a vital conduit between policy and practice, ensuring that your voice is heard and that the realities you face are understood by policymakers.

I am genuinely excited about this next chapter in ISBL’s history. The wider team and I will continue to ensure your needs are met and your work is supported.
